Cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge heading east and the first place you land is Kent Island. It’s where the pace slows, the water is never far away and the days fill themselves with crab feasts, bay views and easy trips out. If you’re staying in one of our Kent Island vacation homes in Stevensville, here’s how we’d spend a few days on the island.
Walk, Cycle and Watch the Bay
Start at Terrapin Nature Park, just outside Stevensville. Gentle trails wind through meadows and wetlands down to a sandy stretch of shoreline with one of the best views of the Bay Bridge you’ll find. Come back at sunset if you can.
From the park, the Cross Island Trail runs across Kent Island towards Kent Narrows. It’s flat, paved and ideal for an unhurried bike ride or a family stroll, with plenty of spots to stop along the way.
Eat Like a Local at Kent Narrows
No trip to the Eastern Shore is complete without a table piled high with Maryland blue crabs. Head to Kent Narrows, where waterfront restaurants and crab houses sit right beside the marinas. Grab a seat outside, watch the boats come through and settle in for a long, messy, memorable meal. Summer is peak crab season, so it’s the perfect time to visit.
Explore Historic Stevensville
Stevensville’s small historic district is a lovely wander, with old buildings such as the Cray House and the restored train depot offering a glimpse of island life long before the bridge was built. Pair it with a coffee or an ice cream and take your time.
Fishing, Piers and Quiet Beaches
Keen anglers and curious kids will enjoy Matapeake, with its fishing pier and small beach looking out over the bay. It’s a peaceful place to cast a line, spot a heron or simply sit by the water with a good book.
Easy Day Trips from Kent Island
One of the best things about staying on Kent Island is how much is within reach. Annapolis is around 20 miles away for sailing, shopping and historic streets, while Easton is about 35 miles away for a charming small-town day out. Baltimore and Washington, DC are both close enough for a city day trip, too.
Come Home to Somewhere Comfortable
After a day out, there’s nothing better than heading back to a spacious home with room for everyone. Our Kent Island home with Chesapeake Bay views is a short walk from the water, and our coastal country home sits on three peaceful acres with its own sauna.
